Getting Started with VMware Automation

This post is by Cody Bunch. I’ve had a request or two recently on how to get started with VMware automation, what resources are there, and what tool should I use. This post aims to at least address two out of the three. That is, how to get started and what resources. Tool selection has

Infinio use case

I wrote a few weeks ago about Infinio and their NFS acceleration product for NFS datastores on vSphere.  Since then I realised that one of the clients I’m working at is an ideal candidate for the product.  The customer has an aged VDI environment containing some old ESXi hosts and backed by an old low spec NetApp array. The performance of the VDI desktops is limited by the amount of RAM in the ESXi servers and the speed of the storage.

Infinio, cache in your ESXi server for your NFS datastores

At Tech Field Day 9 last month Infinio came out of stealth mode and showed their upcoming storage acceleration product for the first time. The product places a caching appliance on each ESXi host to accelerate reads from NFS datastores. For server virtualization this can be a huge help as usually around 80% of VM

Well, how’s that for some lessons learned! Last night we didn’t get as far as I had planned and for that, I apologize. However, we’re not going to let that stop us are we? We’ve adjusted the schedule to add a night dedicated to a Vagrant primer & Lab tools needed for the rest of

Unsupported Database after vCenter upgrades

This week I’ve been working on an upgrade project at a small customer. Pretty routine stuff, take a vSphere 5.0 environment and upgrade to vSphere 5.1, having SRM added another step to the upgrade process.  One thing I highly recommend is that you use the vCenter 5.1 Pre-Install Check fling that Alan Renouf has published on the VMware Labs web site. I did run into a supportability issue around SQL Express.

Hi readers.  Josh Atwell here.  Recently I had an opportunity to speak at the South Florida VMUG Users Conference.  This was a great event.  During my presentation I shared AutoLab and BareMetalCloud with the audience and was excited at the solid response I received from attendees.  One attendee, Azael Colon, shared with me something cool
