Build Day Live has been bringing you live-streamed, hands-on, learning about various vendor’s products for the last three years. But this is 2020, so everything must change. Travel restrictions, particularly for me, mean that we do not expect to be doing Build Day Live events for quite a while. Our new format is more of[…]
Modern times require modern solutions, so vBrownBag has joined a 15-year-old platform. You can now find vBrownBag on Reddit at https://www.reddit.com/r/vBrownBag/. Our subreddit is a place to talk about vBrownBag episodes and talk with community members. A little like the blogger tables at VMworld, but without the conference noise. We plan to link all new[…]
It is official, VMworld 2020 will be an online-only conference happening during the week of 28 September. There will be no in-person VMworld in the US or EMEA until at least 2021. I’m not surprised, and I’m pleased that the VMworld team has chosen to make an early call to go online. It is too[…]
It is the time of year when I get serious about TechTalks and planning for VMworld. This year there seems to be a reasonable probability that VMworld will not be the same as last year, either online-only or reduced attendance. Either way, the vBrownBag TechTalks will go ahead. You can sign up to present a[…]
Less than a week from now, VMworld EMEA 2019 kicks off at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, and the vBrownBag team will be there to make TechTalk videos. You can find all of the TechTalks in the Content Catalog, search for VMTN. You can find the sessions in the VMware Communities area in Hall 6,[…]
In the middle of September, we had another fun Build Day Live event. This time, we deployed the NetApp HCI platform and the NetApp Kubernetes on top of the HCI. Be sure to take a look at all of the videos from the Build Day Live with NetApp in Boulder as well as the event home page. We all enjoyed our time in Boulder, a beautiful central city with the Rocky Mountains rising up directly to the west of town. I have wanted to look at the process of deploying this HCI platform since I was convinced that HCI isn’t really about having the compute and storage cluster on the same servers. The NetApp HCI uses compute-only hypervisor hosts, and then shared storage using the scale-out Element storage OS from the SolidFire platform. Other HCI platforms use storage inside the hypervisor hosts, and so the storage cluster overlaps the compute cluster. With NetApp, there are two separate clusters, but the management is unified, it overlaps.
Wow. Another whirlwind VMworld US is over. As you expect, we made a massive amount of TechTalks, nearly 70 presentations for over 17 hours of finished video! The full playlist is here on YouTube. Thank you to all of the presenters who shared their knowledge and experience with the community. Thanks also to my crew[…]
With just a few days to go, our last sponsor is Rubrik. Like a few smart businesses, Rubrik has employed vBrownBag crew members and TechTalk presenters! You never know where you will end up when you start sharing with the community, it is usually better than before. While you are at VMworld, be sure to[…]

t’s true, VMworld USA is just three weeks away, I hope you have everything planned. NetApp is returning as a sponsor of the vBrownBag TechTalks at VMworld USA in 2019. You can find all of the TechTalks in the Schedule Builder and Content Catalog, and can find the stage in “The Square” when you get[…]
