It is time again, time to submit your vBrownBag TechTalk for VMworld 2019. This year there was no general call for papers for VMworld. I am expecting a larger than usual number of submissions for TechTalks and will be more selective of session acceptance. Community sessions need to show definite educational focus and value to the community. Follow this link to submit a session, please read over your submission before clicking submit as typos are common.
What are vBrownBag TechTalks?
vBrownBag is about community education, created by the community to help others in the community. The TechTalks allow community members and community-minded sponsors, to present content at VMworld that would not (or did not) get accepted to the main conference track. The VMware Community team provides us a stage in the community area, and we invite participants, this blog post is your invitation. You can have either 12 minutes or 27 minutes on the stage. You can present slides, use our laptop for demos or talk to the assembled audience. Sessions are listed in the Content Catalogue and Schedule Builder application, so expect to get a live and supportive audience in front of you. Sessions are live-streamed and recorded, the video is posted to the vBrownBag YouTube channel, usually within an hour of your session. Community sessions will have sponsor logos on the recorded videos, without our sponsors there would be no TechTalks.
What can I present?
We aim to help and educate the technical community, anything that will help our data center infrastructure professionals improve their work or career is welcome. We like hands-on and real-life experience, and we like to know about is new and changing. Community sessions are not an opportunity to sell a product or service, if you work for a vendor then assume the audience has already bought the product, don’t use pre-sales presentations. We do also have sponsor sessions.
Sponsors?
The vBrownBag TechTalk sponsors make it possible for us to help the community. Our biggest TechTalk supporter is the VMware community team who provide us with the stage, stop by and say hello to the nice community people. We have other sponsors who make it possible for us to travel to VMworld and make the TechTalks happen. While you’re walking through the Solutions Exchange, stop by our sponsor’s booth and say thanks for their support.
There are two levels of sponsorship: single video, and community. The single video sponsorship is exactly what it sounds like; you can present on the topic of your choice for 12 minutes. The community level gets you two 12-minute presentation segments (or a single 27-minute one) as well as your logo on the community sessions to show your support of the community. All sponsor sessions only have the sponsor logo in the video; community sessions have a slideshow of all the sponsor logos. All TechTalk videos are posted to the vBrownBag YouTube channel, where they receive hundreds of views over months after the conference.
