For those of you who have been with us from the VCP to the VCAP-DCA & DCD series, having a VCDX specific series has always been a dream of ours, and having John on the show to present it… well I can’t tell you how excited I am.

I invite current VCDX to participate as online panelists as we provide feedback to participants working through the design and troubleshooting scenarios.
I am including two scenarios for each session. To make this a success, I ask participants to not be spectators. Take part in the discussions. Make comments and we’ll provide feedback. Talk through your thoughts on how to proceed. Talk through the diagrams or notes you may make on the white board. Here’s your opportunity to get feedback on your approach.
Some notes from Part 1 that will benefit those of you participating.
1) If you are one of the first to start the scenario off, you have put your best foot forward and are taking an approach that all successful VCDX have done. Time is short so you need to start the ball rolling.
2) Remember that we want to understand the journey you take, not the final answer. Even if you get to the final answer we will still ask for more information. No one has ever completed a design scenario in 30 minutes. It’s not possible. We have a very small count of people who has identified the troubleshooting answer in 15 minutes. Even though they did we still use the full 15 minutes to understand their thought process on reaching the solution. None of the candidates are told if they do get to the final solution.
3) Think out loud. We will allow for everyone to participate. I’ll work with the vBrownbag team to determine the best approach for doing this online. Maybe we call down the list of attendees to have everyone say something for each scenario and then open up for additional candidate questions, feedback, thought process..
4) Don’t focus all your time in one area. In most cases there will be multiple points that we are looking for a candidate to cover. The more areas that you hit the better the scoring opportunity.
5) Don’t be embarrassed to ask a question. Remember that no one knows everything. We will provide feedback that can help you improve on weak areas and continue on strong areas so that when you defend, you have a better chance for scoring higher.
