Input Requested – vCO Book, Troubleshooting

Woot! So, blogging may be picking up again in the nearish future as I approach the end of the first pass on writing the vCO book. That said, I was hoping to get some input from the larger vCO using community on some bits of the book. That is, help me shape the vCO troubleshooting appendix. Here’s the outline I’m working with so far:

Troubleshooting vCO Workflows

Possible Problems
– vCO Server rebooted
– Lost Connectivity
– Broken Workflow

Finding Information
– Where vCO Hides log files
– Finding the last time a workflow ran
– Finding the cracks in a broken workflow
— Workflow validation
— Locking
— Stepping through by hand (in vSphere Client, etc)

Let me know if I’ve missed anything or if there is anything you would like to see added.

  • From what I have seen a practical example on how to find root cause of an error from the server.log file would be beneficial.
From the UI you may want once you have your workflow run to walk through its events and exception (variable tab).
Not sure what you want to put in vCO server rebooted.
