At Tech Field Day 9 last month Infinio came out of stealth mode and showed their upcoming storage acceleration product for the first time. The product places a caching appliance on each ESXi host to accelerate reads from NFS datastores.
For server virtualization this can be a huge help as usually around 80% of VM disk access is reads, these will usually be satisfied from the Infinio appliance. Not loading the storage array for these reads will all much better performance for the writes as well.
This could also be useful for VDI environments where VM boot storms saturate the storage array. VM boot is read intensive and tends to read the same data from each VM, so read cache at the ESXi host can be very beneficial.
The product is in beta now, you can sign up for the beta program at Infinio’s web site. Also while you’re there sign up for their giveaway of a free pass to VMworld USA 2013.
